A 72 px thumbnail cannot tell you whether you attached the right picture. Click any thumbnail in the composer (the post, a per-network copy, a thread part) and it opens full size over the page, with the file name, arrows between the pictures of that post, a video that plays, Esc or a click outside to close, and a Remove button. The small X on the thumbnail still removes it as before.
