The Hacker News archive: which stories climbed fastest, and when to post

Hacker News shows you today. Yesterday is gone unless you know a story's id. We have been sampling the front page since we started tracking it, with a point per story per hour, and that history is now public at /hackernews.

• Best: the highest-scoring stories, by month and by year, from /hackernews/2026 down to /hackernews/2026-08.
• Fastest climbers: ranked by points per hour in the first hours, measured from when we first saw the story. A story that reached 300 in two hours outranks one that took a day to get there. Each row draws its climb.
• Best time to post: by hour and weekday, which slots produced the stories that reached the top. Show HN and Ask HN have their own tables because they behave differently.
• Domains, most discussed, Show HN and Ask HN.

The archive is public and needs no account. It is the same data that feeds the Radar, so a story you see climbing there can be checked against everything that climbed before it.
